During the Koch administration I wouldn't ride the subway. I took a taxi everywhere. I saw two men horribly beaten for their gold necklaces by black thugs on the A, and women touched by homeless men on the train, and I couldn't help any of them, during Dinkins' administration.

During Giuliani's and Bloomberg's administrations, I saw nothing scary on the subways. Homeless sang or begged, but NO violence.

New Yorkers voted for De Blasio.

Depends on what train you ride. I've seen plenty of scary things happen on trains during the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations.

Anti-gay bigots were as prevalent during the Koch, Dinkens, Guiliani administrations as they are during the De Blasio mayoralty. Never any shortage of loud mouthed homophobes.
