not shocked. i remember a news story on how jews built public housing for themselves payed by taxpayers. pissed me off. i guess i will always pay market rate because i choose not to have 12 kids.

Again, Hasidim are a group with a high poverty rate in NYC.
Why is it so surprising that many of them have Section 8?
Borough Park, Brooklyn, for example (a largely hasidic/ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhood) has one of the highest poverty rates in the city.

It's not even people getting off on the system or abusing it that bothers me. What bothers me is creating lives that you can't afford. From one on those children are held at a disadvantage. They didn't ask to be born and struggle through life. Its very selfish. I just don't understand why it isn't common sense, you can't afford your family now so don't increase it.

Hassidic Jews would never agree to use birth control as it is against their religious beliefs. Also the highest form of employment for a male Hassidic Jew is to sit all day and study the Torah (the 5 Books of Moses from the Bible). So it is usually the wives who are working outside the home besides having all those children. |

One evening, I saw a bus, on Underhill Avenue in Prospect Heights, where all the men were in the front and the women were in the back. It looked so obvious. However, I had no proof as to whether the seat makeup was by choice.
