It's not them personally buying the houses and cars for the cash. The the Hasidic sect is buying (or putting up the money for) them and placing the followers in the homes. Then the Hasidic sect creates fake owners who is renting to them. Then the people living there get funded by whatever state and federal organizations in which the Hasidic sect takes a cut of that.

Nope. If you walked into the home, you're not going to see any current electronics or expensive appliances. You're going to see a vanilla household. Also don't forget that are numerous organizations that collect donations and disburses them. Thus people don't have to really shop for many things as the sect supplies them from these donations. And if a family is running short for any reason a envelope of cash arrives.

Keep in mind that most Hasidic sects, don't consider other Jews as Jews. So it's ok to cheat them also. This is pretty well prevalent and noticeable more in Israel than in the US. Israel has it's own catch-22 to deal with, The orthodox population have numerous children that increases the total population of Israel which Israel needs to increase their numbers to stay in head of the Arabs as their secular population who actually work and pay taxes have around three children or less.

PLUS there are some who double dip by having dual citizenships and living in both countries getting gov't funding. It's a hot potato that no one wants to touch.

Avenue J in Brooklyn is by now a haredi/yehivish area.

Most of the people/synagogues there are haredi/yeshivish and NOT Modern Orthodox .

An exception is the Yeshiva of Flatbush which is Modern Orthodox and is co-ed. It is also over 50% Sephardic/Syrian Jewish, a group which actually largely IS Modern Orthodox (not yeshivish).

As for YU: yes it was founded as a Modern Orthodox institution.
But it has moved further and further to the right, to the point where, for example, most of the rabbis getting smicha there are yeshivish/black hat and NOT Modern Orthodox.

Reformed and other members of the Jewish faith at least in the USA are beginning to get Hasidic's number. Wealthy and or other Jews of the Reformed branch are donating less and less over the years. Feeling is the same as not only in Israel but elsewhere; people need to get up off their behinds and go to work for a honest living. That and or "why should I pay for you to stay home all day studying Torah?".

Orthodox Jews are hitting back claiming that the Reformed aren't true Jews and or have lost their way and thus soon will be gone. To an extent that is somewhat true at least in the USA. Between inter-faith marriage and other reasons non-Orthodox Jewish numbers are declining IIRC in this country. It is only the (very) high birthrates of the various Hasidic sects that contribute to the overall Jewish demographic.

As for Israel and their population growth, that country does everything possible to help things along. From welcoming immigrants from France/Europe with open arms, to pushing for treaties with places like the USA that basically attempt to direct flows of Jews to Israel in part, to sponsoring and paying for gays to have surrogate children anywhere in the world.

LOL, funny you mention this. The reformed Jews also have their own negative stereotypes. And it seems there is some parallels between the two stereotypes, with of course, one of them having a more secular feel and methodology too it. If the negative stereotypes are to be believed.

I knew a fellow landlord who rented to section 8...savages ripped out the toilet, threw it through the window and crapped in the tub.

For all the noise about Orthodox Jews in the USA they still make up a small percentage with Reformed dominating. A Portrait of Jewish Americans | Pew Research Center

Problem going forward is related to more and more of the latter population becoming secular including inter-faith marriages. Of several Jewish male friends from college only one married a Jewish woman. The rest married shiksas ranging from white European to African-American, Asian, Hispanic and in one case another man. Either way the children aren't Jewish by birth and aren't being brought up as such culturally much.

If that were the trend for secular Jews, then, there would no longer be any secular Jews. It just be Ortho Jews and everyone else. What would happen with Israel if that were the case? They will have no supporters here in the US.

I am pretty sure there is still a contingent of secular Jews who marry other jews. Or everyone else converts to Judaism like Ivanka Trump.
