My partner and I will be in NYC to celebrate our 25 year anniversary. He wants to see Chelse, but he's not exactly sure what it is he wants to see. I guess he wants to see the "gay" side of Chelsea, I suppose. Right now I'm thinking we might visit the WTC museum around 11am and get out around lunch time. Perhaps we could walk from WTC to some place in Chelse to have lunch. Then we need to go from there to about 50th & Lexington.

Can anyone suggest a good place for lunch in Chelsea on a Thursday that might be a short walk to a subway station?

Everywhere in Chelsea is a short walk to a subway station, and there's no shortage of places to eat, but it's not really an obviously "gay" place any more. It's a very long walk from WTC, you're better off using the subway unless you want the exercise.

I guess I could take him to the Stonewall Inn. Do they serve food there, or is it just a bar / tourist trap? Looks like Chelsea isn't that far from the Whitney Museum so we could make an afternoon of it.

Her mom is probably going to be president, so might as well visit Chelsea now.

Chelsea is a great place to visit for a tourist. Have lunch at Chelsea Market (tons of delicious options to choose from). If you have time, walk on the high line (an elevated urban greenway built on a former railroad track). Best train to take to 50th and Lexington from Chelsea is the E train (stops @ 14th, 23rd, 34th Streets) to Lexington/53rd Street station.

I too think either the Chelsea Market or the Highline might have some good food.

Also one should walk around the Chelsea Piers/Promenade for some great views (south and west).

That's not really in Chelsea it's in the west village but it's not a far walk from Chelsea at all. Chelsea is more north from West Village.

If you want to walk from the WTC to Stone Wall and/or Chelsea, take the west side pier and it can lead you right up to West Village and Chelsea. Plus you can get some nice views of the the Hudson.

You think you're going to be through the WTC Museum in an hour, do you.

I got there at 9:30. I left when I realized I was hungry and checked the time. It was 2:00. I need to go back and check out some things I missed.

Not much to do in Chelsea that you couldn't do anywhere else. The thing that comes to mind for me is the Flatiron building and a nice scenic stroll along Chelsea Pier / Hudson River park.
