Default Is it a safe to drive into brooklyn?

I've been looking for decent maps of brooklyn, but none seem to show all the streets-let alone one ways etc.. not to mention good areas from bad- and what areas to NOT to get lost in.
I've made an appt. for my 2yr old with a Dr.Treem Pediatric Gastroenterology Children’s Hospital at Downstate..the address says 445 lenox..
Can anyone tell me if it will be a straight/easy, no brainer drive?
Or can you tell me if it will be easy for me to get lost and end up in the wrong part of town..I'll be coming in from the Jersey Shore. thanks!

Just avoid going anywhere that is located east of Flatbush Avenue [with the exceptions of Fort Greene, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint] and you'll be fine.

If she's coming from the Jersey shore and going to Brooklyn that probably doesn't make the most sense.

Google maps is pretty good with directions, though I agree that it is best to get a personal recommendation from someone who actually knows the way

from: neptune city nj to: 445 Lenox Rd, Brooklyn, Kings, New York 11203, United States - Google Maps

I really want to avoid walking around any streets except going to & from the hospital parking lot to my car..I can't imagine trying to park, find the right train with my 2 yr old twins without looking totally clueless on where it's taking me. Then trying to figure out how long of a walk it would be to the hospital. I'd do it if I was just by myself. Thanks for the advice though..Sarah

Um.... Since the hospital is east of Flatbush, you will have to travel east of Flatbush, but don't worry, you won't be driving through any dangerous areas. The Google maps route posted by Henna looks like it will work fine.

Expect heavy traffic on the Staten Island Expressway and on the section of the Gowanus/BQE from the Belt parkway merge to the Battery Tunnel exit. There has been major construction going on there for I think the last 20 years or so . Keep an eye out for the Prospect Expressway exit (#24). It's one of those temporary signs they put up in the construction zone, so there is no large overhead exit sign.

Use the route number. Just follow the signs to stay on route 27. Otherwise, the Prospect Expressway simply ends with a traffic light at Church Ave., but I don't think you can make a left onto Church.

I don't know the parking situation at the hospital.

PS: if you do miss the Prospect Expy Exit. Don't panic. This section of brooklyn is very safe. Just take the BQE all the way to Atlantic Ave. Stay to the right - the left lanes will take you to the Battery Tunnel and Manhattan. At Atlantic you can turn around and re-enter the BQE (Westbound), or you could take Atlantic Ave to Flatbush and make a right.

UpstaterInBklyn- thanks so much! sounds like you know your way around pretty well.
I have been wondering why someone who is supposed to be such a great doctor would be working in such a slummy area & at a little known hospital. It didn't make sense to me. Glad to hear that the area is fine. I was about to cancel and drive to john hopkins in baltimore instead. Thanks again, Sarah

Don't cancel - just go. The area is not dangerous. It's not the prettiest Brooklyn has to offer but I never felt in danger when walking around near there.
