Post What's happening in the Bronx (news)

Hello everyone! I'm new to the site. I signed up because I saw a very interesting post about the Bronx. I'm a journalist and I do a lot of reporting in the Bronx. If anyone knows of any neat activities, performances, business,...any worthy news...please let me know. Is there something you think people are missing out on?

The enormous amount of crime in Hunts Point this year. Also the Bronx is the murder borough of NYC this year...taking the title from Brooklyn so far.

On a lighter note...all the developments goin on in Mott Haven, Concourse, Melrose..etc

As a teacher, I'm interested in education stories as they pertain to the Bronx. Most of the media emphasizes the city schools as a whole. Frankly I think the Mayor's boasts about the schools being better is a lot of crap because I don't see it where I work. I want to see the schools improve very much, but what I see is a lot of fuzzy math when it comes to statistics, as opposed to real improvement. I wonder if other teachers in the borough see what I see, or are their gains real?

Mott haven was on the news yesterday. There is a building infested with rats (really) and the tenants have to fight them with bats etc. the land lords do nothing and ofcourse the city does nothing. the LAW is anything but fair - poor people get shafted hard core. I doubt tenants in "better" areas meet the same indifference from the system that is supposed to protect them. Apparently it has something to do with an improperly maintained incinerator.

These situations are shown on t.v and it ends with the all too famous metronome - calls to the land lord were not returned or answered. The news moves on to the next "story" and the people continue to live with their problem.

It's funny, the system doesn't work when tenants are getting jerked but the minute tenants stop paying rent - oh no here comes the eviction squad

No matter anyway you slice it, Mott Haven is a piece of ****.

I'd rather live anywhere else in the Bronx.
