23 yr old Latino male. Currently from lower east side Manhattan. Looking to rent a studio apartment on briggs ave by 198-199st. Near kingsbridge road D train. Surrounding area valentine ave grand concourse. Is this area safe?

Its as safe or safer then the LES. Just keep your eyes open and you might like the area. Near Mosholu Pkwy and the Botanical Gardens and plenty of stores. If you bike you are also near Van Courtladt park. You will be fine. Walk around the area on the weekends, hang out there all day. However, try not the walk around super early or late. There are drugs and social problems in NYC.

Kinsgsbridhe Heights is as safe as the LES?

No, I'm not too familiar with it but the LES is a prime Manhattan neighborhood so I'd be surprised if Kingsbridge was just as safe.

LES is still kinda dumpy in some parts. But I doubt that area is safer.

It really goes block by block below Bedford Park Blvd--above tends to be nicer, I don't think I'd consider it unsafe though.

11995 LES is expensive now. However, I wouldn't say its safer then Kingsbridge. Both areas probably have lots of break ins, and theft. Drugs and fighting in equal measure. Just because LES has become very expensive doesn't make it better.
