Drink plenty of water.
Wear a hat.
Wear shorts (unless you have pale white legs which would burn)...
Don't forget to drink plenty of water...

It was 108 yesterday where we live... dis our walk early.

Why did you choose to come to NYC in the middle of summer? Maybe fall or spring would have been a better option.

My grandmother is dying and I'm taking her to hospital visits.

Yes, I just spent this entire weekend which was hotter than it will be during the week walking by choice. Just walking for the sake of walking. I actually just walked to the dentist and back which was about a mile. I have a car so I don't have to walk places.

Exactly. Unless the OP is coming back to NYC really soon, then just go out and enjoy the city. 90-93 degrees is not so extreme where someone would be dying and have to go back inside immediately. People travel in far hotter conditions all the time.

That doesn't sound smart to do when there is a heat advisory going on.

Ny-ers do what they need to do no matter what. We aren't wusses. You can't let silly things like the weather stop you from doing what you want to do. I was out all day in the sun this weekend too. People live in the desert were its much hotter and some how mange to survive. If you really want to go you will go no matter what, if you don't then you will cancel. Simple as that.

I guess it's different in Ca. We take advisories seriously If you are a runner or anything during a heat advisory, people here do it early in the morning or in the evening.

experienced runners are generally pretty tuned to hydration & heat. The people that should worry are elderly or have some health condition.
