I signed my documents today at BG and they are headed onto the city. I'm going to see the apt on Friday however, the lady at BG informed me that the city is still working on the municipal applicants so the process for the city approval aka last step can take up to another 3months.

Absolutely long wait omg! But hopefully they move onto General population by the end of this month. its crazy how long this is taking.

Things should start picking up. I was finally contacted to sign a lease for March. I'm not sure if I'm going to take it because the program is set to expire in 2038 and I'm currently in a permanently affordable apartment. I just need to make sure my info is correct before I decline.

Hi Downtown Dreamer,

When u say set to expire does that mean the affordable apartments in this building will expire 2038 as in you must move out by then??

Also are you general population?

I feel like I won't get the apt because I will have to submit new paperwork middle of Feb. if I do not sign a lease by then as it will be over 120 days and I just received a promotion/raise at work that has put me over the max income.

Sucks this is taking forever.

Jessrocks,

I'm pretty sure once the program ends in 2038, management are at liberty to charge market rate and no longer be bound to keep the apartments affordable. Each building is different, usually 20-35 years from what I've read. Some buildings are permanently affordable.

Are you actually all worried about what happens in 20 years? So what if it goes market rate? You'll likely be earning a lot more money by then. And in 20 years, your whole life is likely to change--given the money you will have saved by having a subsidized apt for 20 years, you could likely buy a place. I can't fathom this as a deterrent, but I'm obviously in the minority here...in 20 years you could be long gone from New York, or long gone from this earth. Anything can happen. Just take the bloody apt if you can get it! I mean, really.
