I grew up not too far from this school so I know it very well.
This used to be Evander Childs High School - one of the WORST high schools in the city. So (IIRC), the city stepped in and split it up and cleaned it up. They've come a long way, I see.

Admission to this school is HIGHLY competitive. Students have to attain a very high score on the admissions exam to even be considered for admission.

I'm not sure why this is considered such a good school. Only a little more than half (55.4%) the students graduate on time, and even after seven years, only 80% graduate. This is comparable to graduation rates city-wide.
Yes, the Bronx does have some very good schools. However, it has far more NOT very good schools. Two of the three middle schools in my building (in the South Bronx) are on the city's "persistently dangerous" list, due to the number of violent incidents and students found carrying weapons.
Parents shouldn't assume that their children will automatically be attending a school like Bronx Science. In fact, it's far more likely that they'll be attending schools like the ones in my building.

(College admissions: very good). The school is only two years old. By 2010 the number of student that will graduate will be higher. There's an interview process to attend this school. So they're picking the best of the best to attend. There are only 606 students attending this school. College admissions: About 80 percent of graduates are accepted into four-year colleges, including Brandeis, Dartmouth, and SUNY and CUNY schools. John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a popular choice
