I want to chime in on this. As bad as many of the schools in NY are (I said many, not all), I realized that not all "birds" (does that mean suburbs?) are created equal. Someone talked about the high property taxes in Union County, NJ, and daughter thriving. Great. But I'll say this....My wife and I are paying 11K in property taxes in Rockland. My stepson's guidance counselor made a computer glitch that put him back in the 10th grade (he's in the 11th). It was like that for a month into the school year. He couldn't vote in his class elections as a result. Add to that, the school building still looks like it was when it was built during the 60s! Oh, buy the way, he doesn't take lunch due to the gangs taking over the lunchroom!
High property taxes for a still old building, gangs at lunch, and major administrative error! (we had his counselor changed!). I told my wife, "if we're paying that amount of money, they we better have Tech, Stuyvesant and Bronx Science up in here!"
Someone told me, "If you think the grass is greener on the other side, you need to water your own grass!" I give props to the folk who bought homes at Orion, and are doing what they can to make change. Peace.

Thanks for telling your story.
If Barack Obama can united the country we can unite a little section in The Bronx called Melrose Commons, He did it by one vote at a time. We can by one block at a time. Yes i know things maybe tough. Change will come.
Thanks for your comments.

Great comments
I'm very happy to hear such positive comments, about a area that once was though of as "yuck".......and after seeing pictures of the change, makes my heart feel good that the Bronx is slowly turning around, I love your comments about Obama and I'm hoping that the future for all is as bright.

Orion, those are all great pics, Thanks for posting. That furniture store on Brook Ave has some great furniture, I went inside a couple of months ago, it's pricey, but the furniture is of great quality, and well worth it I believe
