Make that BEN'S BEST.

We got a new Deli up the block on Third between 93rd and 94th called The Fillmore. They make a good hot pastrami on rye for $8.50 with real brisket <not round.>. I hope it succeeds. It seems every annual rent increase knocks a bunch of restaurants out of business. Their attendance seems to be improving little by little.
It's not a 3 inch thick sandwich but the serving is pretty ample for 2 to share.
Try it if you are in the neighborhood.

Phooey on that. Anthony Bourdain makes reference to the 'vegetarians, and their Hezbollah like offshoot, the vegans."

Life eating like a damn rabbit. Sounds like a jail sentence.

Think maybe I'll go to the market and get me a 1/4 lb of Boar's Head roast beef. Hopefully, rare.

Watch, it will be replaced with a Starbucks or a Duane Reade. Just what we need, uh?

Not what they said four years ago after the Stage Deli closed.

After you salt away a couple million, the day to day grind might well become not worth it anymore. It comes down to the old story: if none of the kids wants to take over the business, you shut it down. (I can see getting REAL sick of slicing pastrami day in and day out.)

no. no. and just no. i worked near carnegie. lines out the door every day, til this very day. tourists or not, they're making a ton of money. it's their business, which is not savvy, which is why he wants to close the restaurant. how the hell has katz been in operation over 100 years if jewish delis were on their way out?
