Nothing that I know of, I heard that price wise it is higher than NJ, but NJ tax is higher. Which one has higher rent? I started this thread asking what neighborhoods in NYC area are good for middle class families, I would like to hear about any nice areas in the whole metro area. Since I am not from the area I am like a sponge ready to soak up info about the area from people who live there, good or bad. Has anyone attended rutgers? I belive I would get a lower tuition rate for living in Jersey, is that true?

Who told you Bayonne was a nice area? I wouldn't say so. Tight knit community I would agree with.

I read that in a different thread, what is wrong with it? Dirty, crime, bad schools?

It's very industrial with a lot of run-down sections with older houses. I don't know about crime so much, but what I've seen of it was pretty ugly. People like the area near 10th St or so, but I haven't seen anything that impressed me all that much. Some parts of each NYC borough are so beautiful they'll almost take your breath away and I have not experienced anything close to that in Bayonne. I guess I'm just not impressed by urban NJ other than Hoboken and limited parts of JC. Newark, Trenton, New Brunswick, Elizabeth, AC and Camden just don't appeal to me aesthetically. I also have heard that Bayonne is insular and unwelcoming, which it seemed to me when I was there. I have experience with places in Boston and NY that are on a peninsula like that, and they tend to be isolated and self-contained, and therefore not all that welcomng of outsiders.

I don't believe the schools are that great but probably not as bad as some other places like Jersey City.

I'd rather deal with the subways than have one train every 30-60 minutes and then spend an hour plus on it.
I agree, I too prefer the subway over the LIRR!

Default Longer than you think...

That trip is 1.5 hours door-to-door.

I would rather have that commute than need like 3 transfers among buses/subways anywhere in NYC. On the LIRR you just sleep the whole way in and mostly don't have to worry about transferring.

The good thing about the subway is that it's more reliable than the LIRR. But then again, you don't get to relax and sleep on the subway like you can on the LIRR. At least that's true for me.

I wouldn't live in NYC with a son with that condition unless you intend to watch over him which means you need to live in some expensive condo in the NYC. Good luck with that.

NYC is not the land of equal opportunity just remember that.
