Like, why? What exactly is the issue? Also, why do some NYCer's have this weird conception that every transplant is a trust fund baby? I guess that's a way of making you feel better and being able to leave out the thought that many transplants actually worked hard to be able to afford things that they have?
YES, many transplants move into new apartments/condo's (that were built on vacant unused land) that many Native NYCer's can't afford. Yes they move to (formally abandoned) renovated warehouse converted apts/condo's as well. Lets not act like the upper middle class native NYCer's dont as well!
There are also transplants who come to NY for opportunity and do not come from wealthy families. Guess they dont belong, huh?
I mean, is it that many of these transplants are millennials? Different? I mean, what is it? Or is it just jealousy? Jealousy that SOME of them can afford things that others can't? I wonder why trust fund-millennial native NYCer's doesn't get much hate from the working/middle class native NYCer's?
Honestly, what exactly is the problem? You can't blame them for driving up prices because they are not billionaire developers. Lol!
Oh I don't know. I'm a native New Yorker, and think maybe it could just be your attitude and your perception of us. I do, however, like to date transplants. In fact, I'd rather date/marry transplants. So keep pouring in as you like, as I like to have options.
From my observation. Transplants offer a breath of fresh here to nyc. Everything from culinary fusion, job growth, to even better quality women. As for why transplants come to nyc? Tranplants come from middle class areas of the country and come from better educated backgrounds compared to native new Yorkers. What hit tranplants hard back in there native environments is the professional job market. Their are jobs were transplants come from, but these jobs are not professional. After graduating job placements in suburbia is either logistics local government, Healthcare and etc. You're not going to find media, or publishing in tabernacle Iowa. college Nyc had plenty of professional jobs, however majority of its residents are not qualified or skilled for positions. Transplants are so they move out here and become employed. A buddy of mines who moved from San Diego to nyc started out here in nyc making 35 dollars an hour. A woman I befriended who moved from Minnesota found a job in NYC within two weeks of moving here. In matter of fact all of her aiblings siblingsmoved here. All of her colleagues are not from nyc btw except for payroll. Transplants have better work ethic than native new Yorkers. These professional jobs require long hours, and at times. Certain situations can't get in the way of your employment. Transplants do not have kids or sick parents at home in NYC to tend to? Local native new Yorkers have kids. Families, sick parents which can get in the way of employment which can hurt productivity.

The ones who complain (especially on this site, which is where I hear it the most) are just crybabies. I suppose they see others who they perceive are doing better than they are -- these people are earning more money, or have nicer apartments, or whatever -- and they feel sorry for themselves in comparison and start to b**ch and moan.
I have always believed that without fresh blood, a city dies. You either have to grow or you wither on the vine and die, so a city nobody wants to move to is far worse than one that's widely considered desirable.
Some people who already live here just hate the idea that what they're used to and what they like is changing and take their anger, fear, hostility, whatever, out on the newcomers. Which is ironic since without them, whole sections of the city would look like the west side of Chicago or most of Newark. Is that what they really want?
NYC is a hyper competitive environment with limited resources. The constant competition gets on peoples nerves. Housing, Child education, employment, getting on the subway are all competitive sports.
Can the transplants survive the worst economic times? That will prove their citizenship. If a recession starts, most new transplants won't survive very long. No relative to turn to if they lose apt.
It's also a very common meme on City Data forums that when someone levels a criticism about the people or culture of x city, for a resident of said city to then proclaim it's actually the transplants' fault and that none of those criticisms can be applied to natives. It's just a defense mechanism used by overly sensitive insecure people.
