Spots for people watching in NYC (Hope: camps, ferry, vehicle)

I was in NYC for a week. I stayed at a campsite in Jersey City for $65 a day and it worked out great! (Tent for $55 or sleep in your vehicle for $65.)

I hit all the usual spots, a little bit of Central Park, Staten Island Ferry, Times Square, a short walk down 5th Ave, Washington Square, a little of the Village, WTC Memorial, Chinatown, the Public Library, Grand Central, Coney Island, lots of subways and a few of the landmark buildings. (I couldn't afford going to the tops though.)

I was thinking I would explore above Central Park, some of Harlem, a gay bar in the Village that looked promising and the waterfronts on my next trip. (Hopefully March / April of '17)

What areas of NYC do you recommend for finding people or interesting sights? I like doing street and indoor people photography as well as a few landmark sights.
