Anyone else (whose a bus fan) noticed lately that the Novabus RTS 0-6 is becoming rarer and rarer as time progress (especially in Brooklyn)? I remember 5-10 years ago, that it was pretty much impossible to go 5 minutes without seeing 1 or 2 of these buses. Now, the only places you can still find them (somewhat) are in Downtown Brooklyn, Kings Plaza, or Williamsburg plaza. Just about everywhere else, all I see is New Flyer XD40s, New Flyer C40LF CNGs, and Orion VII OG/NG hybrids (and occasionally CNGs). And when I do see RTS's these days, they are usually in the #4900-5249 group. It's as if everything else outside of that series RTS-wise is retired. Any thoughts on this?
I only really see those sometimes deep in Brooklyn or Queens, and occasionally in the Bronx. Something about them really triggers memories of the 90's for me, lol.
They are still in use on quite a few buses running through the downtown area, including the B45, B65, B25, B26, etc.; granted, most of the buses on those lines are of the newer variety, but there are still more than a few older RTS models around. I can't say that I miss those buses, though.
I always thought the fishbowl buses were the iconic NYC look.
I dont miss the RTS though...when a wheelchair needed to get on, the bus driver had to go all the way to the back, and operate the lift from there. It took forever. And I suspect some drivers urinated in that rear stairwell when they were off duty, because it smelled sometimes!

Totally! That along with the NYC stoplights with the guy wires, the streetlights (less so now with the LEDs), the Els, etc.

I saw one in lower Manhattan earlier they're around there if you're in Tribeca, and then of course I had the luck of taking one home on the shuttle bus (not really luck I think RTS's suck )
