And his propensity to speak his mind on twitter. This will be entertaining! Trump congratulated the president of Taiwan on her election win. China sent a strongly worded formal protest to Washington. China views Taiwan as part of it's terrotory and not as an independent nation. China has also economically bullied all other countries into 'officially' adopting this stance.
Trump said to hell with your cheap goods and loans. I will do what I want. If we can sells billions in military equipment to Taiwan(which they would possibly use to defend their independence from China) I can say congratulations.
Trump is gonna **** of China and then we will have embargoes from China. RIP cheap crap that I could buy directly from China for $5 including shipping lol.
Shows how hypocritical politics is. ' Communists cuba' was recognized with the full diplomatic relationship restored. Poor Taiwan isn't allowed to be great because their 'abusive communist parent' china said so. We willingly look the other way for financial gain. China does much worse things than Cuba ever did. At the end of the day money determines political stance in Washington.
Taiwan is an asian version of the Jewish state of Israel. Taiwan is an clientele state just like Israel, and a major benefactor of US arms. China right now like Russia fears US encroachment from all fronts.
The biggest idiots here are the losers on the bottom rung in both the Clinton and Trump camps -- the ones who think their hero can restore their particular interpretation of the "good old days" via the use of force; fortunately, Trump will likely be able to work with a Congress determined to undo some of the worst of the abuses of the last eight years,
What happens beyond that is anybody's guess; given Trump's background, and the force of his personality, I find it hard not to believe that much of what we've seen since February is an act; once he's inaugurated, he'll start shifting gears and likely go into realpolitik mode.
I didn't work for him; my support went to Johnson; but I also understand that a mature, but post-industrial society is going to recognize the need for a "safety net", and I expect an effort to reform, rather than dismantle it.
The revolt of "blue dog" voters exemplified in the Upstate Pennsylvania where I make my home has little to do with race, it's about responsibility for one's own life and actions, and a realistic attitude about what government can, can not, and should not do,
I think a trade war might hurt China more than the U.S. and I don't they would initiate one purely based on comments. A tariff on imported goods to the U.S. would most certainly start one--but its hard to imagine Congress getting behind that.
Nevertheless, I'm sure this is keeping Tim Cook over at Apple awake at night.
However, if I've learned anything in this election cycle it's that trying to make predictions is pointless--so I may make a move on a new laptop I need sooner rather than later.

I think Trump will renegotiate trade agreements with China. So what he spoke directly to the President of Taiwan. They will get over it.

How??? China manufactures all the products Americans consumer. You forget that the Chinese Communist Party is diverse in opinion. While leadership is free market, there are strong socialist elements in the party. With one fell swoop China could Nationalize US owned factories and land in a China which would devastate the US economy

I wouldn't bet on that happening. The world outside North Korea and Venezuela knows free market economics works and command economies are doomed to fail. The CCP may have diversity of opinion but not diversity of goal: keeping the CCP in power. A rollback of economic progress in China would result in a total loss of any chance of having a seat at the international table and a real threat of revolution. US corporations would have no end of other options to expand offshore markets/influence. Heck, if our dollar keeps soaring, offshoring to Europe may be in the offing....
