I watch way too much Investigation Discovery channel (true crime). I'm picturing the news that a serial killer of Latina women is on the loose in NYC...Stabler and Benson will NEVER think of the Montana connection! But WE will KNOW!!!!!

LOL I love how my reverse psychology triggered a few folks.

Antonio I'm totally on your side! I was just using some reverse psychology on some of the regular libs on here giving them a taste of their own medicine
They see racism in EVERY LITTLE THING! I was just saying what I said before one of our resident libs did, to see how they would react

carry on! I'm done messing up your thread - sorry bout that

Thanks for the clarification. I must say I feel pretty stupid now. I apologize. My bad.

There are no Spanish neighborhoods in NY; try Spain perhaps.

Not your fault, sarcasm doesn't come over well when not in person

Jackson Heights resident here. I would say that most people is stores, small restaurants, take-outs etc speak fluent Spanish (except in little India 73rd to 75th st). Try La Gran Urugaya on the corner of 85th and 37 ave. It's a bakery / cafe with lovely food, dirt cheap and almost everyone is Hispanic. And BTW, we don't need to carry guns to feel safe, even us white women.

FWIW, lately, I am finding Spanish (European) as waitstaff in Manhattan French restaurants.

People are people. If you start to speak in Spanish and they respond in English (because of your Anglo accent) just explain your reasons for preferring Spanish. That's what I do and most are very accommodating and appreciative of someone trying to learn their language and understand their culture.

As for searching for beautiful Latinas, don't expect everyone to look like Jennifer Lopez. Don't discount the abuela types. They can be very patient with correcting your accent.

Edited to say this area would be good for practicing Spanish, but not sure about the gorgeous women sightings. Not my area of expertise.
From what I understand, Corona has quite a big of gang activity.
Not sure it's so "safe".

I've been there plenty of times and found it safe enough for me to eat at restaurants and go to museums and not really even think twice about my safety. Have you ever been there or are you just repeating something you saw on the news?

Here are a few places you could try if you want to make a visit (note - not all would be good for OP's field trip as not all are Spanish language based).

Tortilleria Nixtamal is really special because they make their own tortillas from scratch, which is unusual. However, the people who own it are native English speakers and picked up Spanish later, so it's not one of those hole-in-the-wall Latino places where no one speaks in English.
