I predict that USD will top EUR any time soon...probably before Trump takes the office. For you manhatanites, do you find your sidewalks less and less crowded? Is the rock center half empty this year?

I am so tempted to travel the world because my $$ is worth much more overseas. Unfortunately my work/home schedule is so horrible right now. I am also tempted to buy a piece of winter home in Sweden. Their currency has taken an ugly nosedive in this past year, but their loss is all my gain so I am not complaining...

How the strong dollar is hurting American tourism

The strong dollar does have an effect on US tourism, including NYC. Above a certain level foreign tourism goes down. The article says NYC has been appealing to a wider group of countries to make up the difference.

But a strong dollar makes OVERSEAS travel CHEAPER for Americans, and as they go to other countries that hurts NYC.

Over a year ago Crain's claimed the strong dollar would hurt the NYC economy.

So Leoliu you were right to ask this question, and if the dollar goes above the euro, the pain will be felt more widely.

Nothing to worry about IMO. We have built it, they will come.

I don't live in Manhattan but am in Manhattan 6 to 7 days a week. If tourism did go down, I have not noticed it.

wait until the tour season arrives and you can then make a comparison.
a head count on 2017 N-Y-E at times square will give some clearer clues.

Has more to do with how weak their currency becoming. Not so much how strong ours is.

Who cares? We have too many tourists as is and we are gearing for the Christmas rush.

Tourists don't put any money in MY pocket.

Do you want to pay higher property, income, sales taxes?

Without tourism revenue, the city will have to make YOU pay higher taxes. So yes, tourism does put money in your pocket except you just don't realize it.
