Hey everyone, I'm a single mother of a 7 year old boy. I been Certified since August 29th, 2014 for the manhattan borough wide waiting list for a 2 bedroom as a priority N1 and W3. I check my application online every week and all it tells me is *Your application is certified to either a development or borough list, waiting to be reached for an apartment offer.* I'm about to make 3 years waiting for them to reach back to me. Why are they taking so long if I'm also a Victim of Domestic Violence??? Me and my child been jumping from place to place to the point where, I'm end up in a shelter, how much longer are we going to have to wait?? If anyone can please help with any information that might help me push my process. Thank you

My family has been waiting 15-20 years (your situation will obv. be sooner due to domestic violence priority) now for an apartment adequate to our needs in Manhattan as well, and we're still waiting patiently. These are the type of things that need to be initiated in your early 20's it seems, so that once you have kids you're prepared for any unexpected life changing events knowing you'll have an apartment just around the corner. Some other venues might have a shorter wait time due to bad neighborhoods, etc., but you need to prioritize location based on work and family needs. Also try to envision if you plan to still be there until your child feels independent enough to move out. I have some elderly people at my Church that tell me stories about how people never move out, yet in certain circumstances they do move out earlier than expected, so don't give up. Ganbatte .
