They don't know this, but for the Manhattanites as well as the rest of the liberal elites on the coasts, the Trump win was a blessing in disguise. Eventually there would have been a bloody revolution, and let me tell you, the blue states wouldn't stand a chance in the fight. There would be nowhere for the liberals to hide. And no writer for the New Yorker would have the freedom to publish such pieces anymore.

So you're saying that Trump supporters are lawless, violent, anti-American maniacs?

No. I'm stating what happens in the history of every empire after its central powers accumulate such great debt simultaneously with high levels of income inequality. Eventually the once working class will revolt and topple government. And there will be nowhere for the liberal NYer, Californian, or New Englander to hide. You will be killed, and so will the writers for the New Yorker and the NYT. Be prepared and protect yourself.

Well, if you're serious, you sound like a lunatic. It sounds like wishful thinking on your part.

If there is a working class revolt - which seems very unlikely at this point - it's more probable that the ones targeted would be fat-cat Republicans like, say, the Walton family whose millions are made by shafting their employees, not targeting the underpaid New Yorker workers.

I thought the idea was going to be that BLM was going to start a race war, the rednecks would each shoot twice, and the whole thing would be over. Anyway, not going to happen now, so the New Yorker will continue to be free to publish dumb stories like this. Until Trump gets libel laws changed, at which point Pence will sue over being said to like Red Lobster (no jury will find against him on that count)

So then, you seem to imply that you think a "billionaire" like Trump will do something to address this income inequality?
It seems he is aiming in precisely the OPPOSITE direction, by calling for lowered taxes on the rich and continued borrowing to run the country and its wars, or laying HIGHER taxes on the poor and median classes to support the empire.
Unless Trump turns 180 degrees, income inequality will be far worse in 2020 than it is now and the national debt will be $trillions higher.

Since Trump has a history of shafting people financially (including on his so-called charities), there's no reason to expect he'll do anything to alleviate economic inequality.

Then it will suck for us. Unfortunately they'll have more guns.
