When did I say poor people have other options than renting? They don't. But renting in NYC historically wasn't a good option. Why do you think for decades the narrative was to escape at some point? Look at all the retirees who moved to FL or elsewhere in the South. Renting is NYC is always going to be rough because there are legions of people willing to pay a lot of money for substandard conditions.

But renting in NYC historically wasn't a good option.


Actually it was a superb option until the rent destabilization of recent years.

No. People who could afford it always generally moved on at some point.
