So how are we doing TODAY? It is really, REALLY cold. We are holding about 68 F in the apartment. Sunlight has just started flooding the rooms so that might be good for a couple more degrees.

Kapikap reminded me to seal the air conditioner (through the wall but leaky.) I might, but I also feel that an airtight apartment is not good either.

I took my AC out my window. It's nice to have a window again. I forgot what it was like. And it makes a huge difference with the temperature.

An airtight apartment is not healthy, but that cold draft will mess up your day. In the bedroom , its a must. We usually dont seal the bathroom window, so we can use that window for fresh air. Most apartment buildings have a huge heat riser in the bathroom, so drafts are a non issue here.

The sliver lining in the cold snap: Home heating oil prices are way down from a couple of years ago. Depending on your building that may actually mean more heat and more consistent heat.
