Seeking a Paradoxical Venue in New York for NYE (living in, club)

Before I begin, the answer is YES, this is an honest-seeking thread for answers as close as possible to the outlined request below.

Hello fellow New Yorkers! I celebrated my six month anniversary of living in the city earlier this month, but yet to locate an eclectic bar that really speaks to me. I have read quite a few blogs bitching that NYC does an unfortunately great job weeding out hiphop bars which ultimately destroys what I'm looking for... but there's more to it. I have friends coming in for New Year's Eve and I want to please them while staying true to my own interests too.

I am looking for recommendations that would suffice in ALL of the following areas:
- Upscale but still urban
- Darkly lit and plush
- Romantic decor with a splash of whimsy or mystery
- Loud music, preferably trip-hop/global-ambient/electro-chillout that also throws in some trap/dubstep and also maybe some indie acoustic of some sort
- Stiff drinks that can aren't all craft style
- Genuine staff with excellent service

Perks but not must-haves:
- Doesn't require bottle service but offers seating
- Age (can be 18+ but really looking for a 25-45 crowd)
- Popularity (in fact, small lines would be preferred)
- Size of place (big like a club or small like a lounge)
- Manhattan (but other boroughs are fine too, cause I feel like this is more of a Brooklyn thing)


I feel like I am dreaming to find the above.. but if you can share any insight, that would awesome!
