I have an excess of Indian Rupees from my trip in India. I was unable to exchange Rupees when I subsequently travelled in Thailand. I was wondering if I would be able to exchange rupees for USD in manhattan and what the best location for that would be?
I had british pounds that I needed to exchange for USD when I got back. I went to a Chase bank (I am a customer) near a busy tourist spot in times square. They confirmed I was a customer and exchanged my Pounds to USD with no problem.
One on 32nd across the street from Herald Square (between Sixth Ave. and Broadway.) But I'm sure a bank would give you a better rate. Try to get as close to a dollar for 67 rupees as you can.
Yes there are several, I think I found one by Grand Central that took almost all currency bills which I had collected in my travels over several countries. They accept almost everything but not coin currency, only bills.
Didn't India recently canceled all large denomination bills equivalent to $10 and up or something? Hope you only have the new bills issued recently or else it's only as good as dirty toilet paper since the window to exchange the bills is already over. Other than that if you have the old bills I hope you encounter an idiot that didn't know this.

Yeah, the window for 500 and 1,000-rupee notes passed 12/31. Pretty sure those denominations are garbage now. I believe 100-rupee and below are still good.
