NYC culinary staple China Fun shutters, blaming over-regulation - NY Daily News

What left a bad taste in the mouths of its owners and loyal patrons was the restaurant’s sudden Jan. 3 closing, blamed by management on suffocating government demands.

“The climate for small businesses like ours in New York have become such that it’s difficult to justify taking risks and running — nevermind starting — a legitimate mom-and-pop business,” read a letter posted by the owners in the restaurant’s front door.

“The state and municipal governments, with their punishing rules and regulations, seems to believe that we should be their cash machine to pay for all that ails us in society.”

I loved this place. We ordered for delivery from China Fun at least once ever two weeks.

De Blasio and the progressive idiots will destroy Manhattan. Business killing regulations, multitudes of homeless, drug addicts, crimes on the subway..... stupid Manhattan voters get what they deserve by electing this progressive mayor.

De Blasio is not going to ruin Manhattan all by himself. Get serious.

I moved to Manhattan in the 80s. I saw what Dinkins did, hell, I voted for him much to my chagrin. He supported criminal blacks instead of Korean business owners. When Dinkins was mayor, you couldn't ride the subway above the 80s without fear of robbery. You couldn't safely walk in Central Park even during the day. Human **** was on the sidewalk anywhere above the 80s. Crime was rampant with 2000 people murdered in one year. People smoked pot everywhere walking down the street. Rudi took over and things changed for the better.

New Yorkers get what they deserve. De Blasio is what they deserve.

China Fun was a great restaurant. A staple in my neighborhood. If this business decided to close there will be many small businesses to follow.

There is always one. Besides the China Fun is closing due to the regulations and rising rent/money grabs the city has bought upon us since the increase of wealthy initiative. Yes, Rudi cleaned up the streets with mass law enforcement, but actually Dinkins set the ground work for stop & frisk and mass incarceration before he left office. Rudi focused on appeasing the rich and Bloomberg continued the trend of killing small businesses in the city. De blasio took over the reigns from the poor and diminishing middle class in this city.

I can't believe people think every consequence happens overnight. NYC was heading in this direction well past 2010.

The poor and violent criminals and the very wealthy with well armed bodyguards will be all that is left after De Blasio.

Edited to add I was violently robbed in the E 70s during the day, threated with a large knife by a man who was bleeding from two wounds on his abdomen on the upper west side, and saw a man viciously beaten on the A train all by black men my first year in Manhattan.

Times are changing when a business who was there for 25 years decides to close. Glad I left 4 years ago.

Exactly that person Sounds like a typical transplant. Expecting an urban city with 8 million people to be completely safe. This isn't the boondocks, where everything Is spaced out and less human interaction occurs. And then somehow blames crimes only on black people rather than blaming the mass drug epidemic in the 80s/90s. Most crime revolved around the drug trade and money. Nobody of course could figure our out how drugs were getting transported through our ports and mail. The city put a lot of money in mass NYPD hiring because of that.

What you all fail to mention is that other businesses shuttered on 2nd ave between 63rd and 64th on the same lot of land. There was a shoe repair store that was there. The only reason why the cleaners is still there is because of the regency building. It's clearly the landlord raising the rent. I remember when the hot & crusty was on 63rd and it was there for a while
