It still is a predominantly white, Italian neighborhood, and there's likely still racism but behind closed doors. HB is not the only neighborhood like this in the city though.
Was thinking about Howard Beach and remembered my friend being called a n****r lover because he was with me and wonder if it was still as racist now as it was back then.
Racism? Is that what it's called when a neighborhood is kept safe now?
Bringing up an incident in Howard Beach from 30years ago to distract attention away from rioting and looting throughout the country is the same tactic they use when they bring up the OKC bombings by some white dude decades ago in an attempt to compare it to rampant Islamic terrorism - makes them look very stupid and pathetic

Wow. This is an old thread. I posted in it because Google directed me here. As I've stated, i was thinking about Micheal Griffiths and my own experience and wonder if things have changed. It's that simple.
No, things haven't changed. Don't go there if you're the wrong color. I was still living in NYC for Hurricane Sandy and anyone black who came to offer help was told they didn't need any and turned away.

You need to be more specific than that. You’re saying that Blacks went to Howard Beach to offer assistance after Sandy and they were turned away? BS. I’m sure there were plenty of Black cops, Emt, FEMA and Red Cross Volunteers who were welcomed with open arms. Stop with this nonsense. Did these same upstanding citizens offer to help clean up SoHo after that neighborhood was trashed by the wrong color?
