Default Section 8 Apartment

I am looking for an apartment with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. I have working Section 8 and I work for the City of New York. I would prefer Queens, but I'll look in any Boro as long as the place is clean and decent for me and my children. If anyone has any information, I would love their help.

No chance in hell that a landlord w/ a 3 b/r, 2 bath apt. in a "decent" neighborhood will rent to a Section 8 applicant. Period, end of story.

It's because Section 8 determines "livable" as 2 children to a bedroom and I believe they can't be of the opposite sex. So a Section 8 parent with 1 boy one 1 girl, would be granted a 3 bedroom apartment. Never mind the fact that people without Section 8 will have 4 kids in bunkbeds to a bedroom if nessecary while they sleep on the couch. Gotta love the system.

Wow, I wish people were a bit more helpful. I don't understand the vitriol.

With the mortgage crisis, I've seen a lot more apts listed on Craig's from landlords who are willing to take in the steady income from Section 8 renters. Good luck to you.

Perhaps b/c it's the taxpayer's $$ helping fund many of these public programs and if someone is taking handouts they have no right to be picky.

You see that bill in the city council about Section 8? They are trying to force all apartment building owners (including small building, 5 apartments and less) to accept Section 8.

I don't have anything against Section 8 people in theory (in reality a lot of them are scamming the system, but that's another issue altogether), however I think its crazy that the city wants to force all buildings to start accepting Section 8, even if they don't want to have to deal with the paperwork and red-tape.

Hold on...someone called this PICKY? He/she said they *prefer* Queens, but they will live anywhere as long as it is clean and decent for him/her and his/her children. That's picky? Wow.

Some people might be scamming the system, but that doesn't mean this person is. Have some compassion, people.

Yeah right, thats our money that she's using. She shouldn't be picky about where she's living if she's on the dole. Where's my slice of that pie?

So this person can't look for an apt close to where s/he works or where the children go to school? I guess you would rather have them sit at home and not work.
