Rents at the upper end are falling because of increased supply, and smaller Wall Street bonuses. Stop blaming everything on Trump.

That's strange. My rent just went $100 last month.

I don't get this thread. Why are liberals defending gentrification when it displaces millions of working families?

Liberals are strong believers of gentrification. That's why I don't support liberals no more.

What did I blame in this thread on Trump? I'm certainly not advocating higher rents. I don't like all of his budget cuts, but I certainly am not weeping that rents are falling in NYC.

You should stop being so defensive.

I hear you on that. One could write a book on the hypocritical attitudes of those who call themselves "liberals".

Money has no political affiliation for the most part. Wealthier liberals and conservatives have far more in common with each other than with their political parties. Economic interests trump all. Poorer voters on all sides have always been more swayed by various political propaganda.

It's the same reason so many who voted Democrat their entire life in the rust belt voted for Trump.

Follow the money and you will find the truth most of the time.

What liberals? NYWriterDude is flip floppy and far from liberal.

But many white liberals are apart of the gentrification and displacing long term residents due to their want for cheap rent anywhere. Can't blame them but you can't fight against gentrification when you are the reason why areas are gentrifying. You aren't helping the poor by bringing expensive Cafes and bars into an underdeveloped neighborhood. That cafe or bar isn't meant for the long time locals, it's for the transplants that can afford $5 coffee. Liberal racism/classism is just as dangerous as the conservative/southern version

Federal, state, and city policies give tax credits and encourage development in other ways. It has a lot less to do with individual whites seeking cheap rent.

Even the police crackdown on poor neighborhoods (cleaning up the streets) is clearly intended to make more white people feel safe in these neighborhoods and attract investment.

And I'm not flip floppy. I'm not a LINE conservative or LINE liberal, nor do I believe in the current stupidity of US politics.
