What else is charming about my neighborhood? I'm glad you asked. First.. People blasting their music with zero regard for their neighbors. Every other household has a subwoofer and you must listen to what they listen to! Sharing is caring.

What else? People letting their dogs sh1te everywhere without picking up. People illegally breeding multiple dogs. Parents who let their children run around like wild animals with zero oversight. Really bad parenting in general, I think. Half the kids in my neighborhood are overweight by the time they are 8.

Anyone recognize this? It's insane that we live in such a wealthy city but have so many neighborhoods like this

Sounds like lower Ridgewood. It's a pig sty.

This sounds normal for NYC to me unless you live in a place that is over 90% immigrants or a commercialized place I consider nonresidential. For some reason, chicken in typical American restaurants in residential areas is always fried, and I don't know why.

You can get Mexican, Chinese or in some areas Senegalese food if you want stuff with less oil. You can ask a takeout spot for typical home dishes and not just the westernized stuff.

I think so too! I'm in Lower Ridgewood and I wish I lived a few blocks north! Anything above Forest ave would ideal.

Also, the OP is doing nothing to make matters better. Get lost.

I see more severe poverty in NYC than I do when I visit the better off parts of the Caribbean. People need to come out of their bubble and admit that there is much poverty and marginalization of large swathes of US society.

You said it better than I did, ...and I been overseas.

Within in our lifetimes ...Americans... will be the ones on China's "feed the children" commercials.

In contrast, NYC is the biggest city in the most prosperous and powerful country in the world. The fact we have sh1ty neighborhoods with third world standards is a shame and reveals how low our expectations are

Sad but true.

Some people look wealthy but have holes in their underwear.
Other people look poor but have Brooks Brothers underwear.
