I am starting a new job in NYC and was wondering if I should bring my scooter? The company will transport it here for free. Here in Chicago scooters can park for free on any residential streets that require permit. Closer to downtown, one can still find tons of free parking. Generally scooters can park near the intersections, right where the paid parking area ends.
Also each scooter needs to have a "medallion" thingy attached to the license plate . It costs around $50.
I've never had any issue with motorists with my scooter.
One issue is my scooters brand (SYM) has no dealer in NY area. My dealer here said any place should be able to service it. If they need parts they can order from them..
Judging by the responses, it does not seem many people street park their motorcycles/scooters in NYC. Or is there some other forum I should post this on?
ny law, under 50cc does not require special license, but a drivers license. you can legally park on the sidewalk, close to the curb, any sidewalk. mostly delivery guys have em' and the electric scooter is a more popular transport. most popular are the vespa, metropolitan, zuma.
Depends where you are gonna live. They are especially useful in Manhattan which is not a big borough in size but has a lot of traffic. Btw I'm almost 100% although there isn't a dealer that you could get those parts in Chinatown or flushing. You would probably just need to do some research online.

If were you a hipster from East Bumfuk Ohio I would have said forget it, but seeing as how you're coming from Chicago you obviously know how to ride it in a dense urban setting, which is the #1 priority for having it. There is no permit parking in NYC so you can park it in any legal spot and there are tons of open spots that even smart cars can't fit into. Definitely bring it
Where do you plan to park it? Scooters do get taken overnight, with the best locks.
