The cards aren't being destroyed, just the records. So that the Feds can't seize the documents and start deporting people.

I use my card all the time and it comes in handy.

Except the majority of white people who "belonged" here already fled, leaving the city for immigrants and gentrifiers.

Middle class whites do not have enough numbers to have any influence on politics in the NY. Middle class people are a minority (this is true of any race, working class people outnumber middle class), and middle class white people are a minority of a minority.

So it's either live in NYC in misery or leave. Choice is yours.
