Long Island City seems to me like it has more high rises going up than Downtown BK, but Downtown BK is getting a 1,000+ ft supertall skyscraper. Taller than most buildings in Manhattan.
Tower got approved I think construction is going start soon

All we care about is affordable housing and lotteries. We're like the hungry masses trying to bust through the gates of a high castle and where the people on the top floors of the tower have to throw boiling water down on us!

I thought they had already sold both, but still had some operations in both. Citi is a much smaller company than it was in the late 90s, and certain technological shifts reduced the need for certain employees.

It would be an interesting comparison though--has anyone tried doing a tally of how much both areas are putting up these days?
The comparison goes back and forth depending when you try to tabulate the stats. LIC and DT BK switch every time a new batch of buildings go from U/C to completed.

In LIC, the new developments stand out more, since the older buildings there are generally low rise.

LIC is horrible right now. getting on the Qboro bridge is a pain an the sass on weekdays.

the towers by the water serve the ferry crowd very well, over by gantry park. if you work in the 30s very east side, your commute will be very good, and if down by wall street, very good as well. that ferry works.

getting on the 7 to Manhattan will be good as well, even if you are likely to find a packed train .

but who could afford this? this is not being built for Queens and Queens residents. $850,000 and up for a 1 bedroom is a pretty steep price to pay for an apartment.

brooklyn and the bronx has not gone tall, with so many projects. what is going on in LIC is overkill.

One thing bad about BK and LIC is that they are difficult to get to from NJ and Long Island. Majority of folks that don't live in the city prefers Manhattan jobs over BK and LIC. These areas will grow but who likes being in LIC where Con Ed pollution is?

They don't, they are buying to use as their investment. They will rent it out and occasionally drop in for fun. Ultra rich don't pay NYC income taxes.
