ING is one of the larger banks and is a very good company (imho). However, it really doesn't seem that convenient.
They only waive your ATM fees if you use one thats on the "ALLPOINT NETWORK."
You can't actually write a real check with their Electric Orange account. I don't know about you but I'd like to have the ability to write a check if I have to.
If your considering ING I would also strongly consider www.schwab.com
They offer no minimum balance, no monthly fee, all ATM fees are waived worldwide, and they pay 3% interest.

You don't need to transfer huge sums. I don't even think there is a minimum to open an account.

Just thought id put this out there....Im a student with a Bank of America account. I love Bank of America, I get great benefits BUT sometimes it can be a little difficult to find a branch in NYC - even though there one of the biggest banks in the world.

I have Bank of America too and I complain about them constantly and know a bunch of students who have had trouble with them. However, that said, after a friend was with them for a year and then had to switch to Citizens because there were no B of A's in the city he moved to -- I had a different perspective. His new problems with Citizens were much worse than with B of A, however, I think problems may have been more on the front end and things are running more smoothly now.
Any bank you go to you will probably have customer service issues. The only people I've heard about who are happy with their bank's customer service are Commerce customers, but I'm not sure if there might be some other drawback to Commerce.
I thought about switching from B of A to Commerce but didn't because they don't operate in the other state I spend time in. Also, after years of Bof A, I have too many automatic payments set up that it would be a hassle to switch.
B of A does not seem to have as many ATM locations as some other banks, but if you scout them out (and if there is one near school or where you live) you can probably deal with it.

Exactly!! I have never had any service issues or anything with B of A. Only problems finding locations - so I usually have to scope them out beforehand. Now though there is a B of A under construction at the building where I work which is awesome, because the closest B of A to my dorm is 20 blocks away.
