Parents of a friend of mine are doubly eligible for low income housing. Both are military vets and both are disabled (diabetes). They are currently waiting for call backs. My friend just recently got a job. Making 40k. He has some debt. But nothing saved. He wanted to move in with his parents (providing they get approved for an apt) for a year to be able to build a savings and safety net. He's worried though that the renters will find out

. Do they check regularly?

His parents will be obligated to put him on the lease. If the son is caught living at the premises, his parents will not only owe back rent, but may face eviction. At the end of the day, when it comes to low income housing, it's just better to be honest. The headaches and constant worrying are too much to bear.

So they haven't even won the apartment yet and the son is trying to play the system.

This is what is wrong with affordable housing, people scam it and the ones who are honest don't get in.

Military vets don't get preference for 80/20 housing, as far as I know. What type of low income housing is this?

Not to mention the OP is a grown adult. Get off your mom tiddays and stop being a leach to them..
Let your parents live their own life and go live yours.
Opps I mean this to your friend.
