Anyone see these signs attached to the bottom of parking signs? I just saw some in Queens with one saying "Zone# 441387". What are they for?

Yes it was a muni-meter area but the signs are new. The blue makes it stand out. Maybe it's related to using an app to pay for parking?

It used to be you have to go in person to feed the meter and put that on display on your window. Now, with the new APP, you can use that to locate specific meter and pay it through the app, so you don't need to walk over to pay the meter.

The app gets a 2 star out of 5 rating by users. I think everyone is mad that it doesn't allow you to refill your meter from a distance -- like if you are parked at a one hour meter and you pay your one hour and you are still out shopping, you can't pay for another hour with the app.

However, if you're at one of those longer meters (3 hours) and you pay for one hour thinking you'll be done with your errand within an hour, then it would allow you to extend your time to use the full three hours from wherever you are with the app.

One person suggested that if you want to fool the system on the one hour meters, you could pay for your first hour using the machine and a paper ticket and then use the app to pay for the 2nd hour. I guess that would probably work.

It's technically illegal to "feed the meter" (putting more money in after parking for the maximum time allowed at the meter). They couldn't program the app to allow you to do that electronically when it is a ticketable offense.
