- Boomers not retiring
- Automation requiring less entry workers
- H1B workers replacing need for entry full-time workers especially in specialized fields
- outsourcing jobs to external agencies is huge business

Back then companies spend thousands on college recruitment every year to lure college kids that are close to graduating.

Back in the 90s, if you were a junior and had 100 credits in. Many companies want someone like you who is close to graduating.

Today, they don't need college grads anymore but H1Bs fill their needs for the perfect employee.

1. They can't get benefits
2. They won't ask for raises and can't. A H1B person told me she wanted to ask for raise but her agency would not permit it or else they would stop sponsoring her.
3. They get paid by the hour and can't take paid vacations.
4. They have better math and science skills than most Americans.

You can thank Mr.Obama for pushing the open border policies that big companies want to bring cheap labor here easier.
Can you clarify? Your first sentence says H1Bs make more, then your last sentence says that big companies hire H1Bs because they're cheaper.

With the same qualifications (education, experience, etc.) would an H1B worker make more, or less than their US counterpart?

H1B's are paid LESS than their peers doing the same work. That is the sole reason why the visa program exists, to undercut high paying tech jobs. Of course they all make more than "average" Americans' wages.

The H1B program should be eliminated COMPLETELY. Listening to Bloomberg and Gates whining about how hard it is to get good help in the USA makes me think of the usefulness of a guillotine revival.

Yeah some right wing media told them it's cheaper to hire H1Bs but some how they get paid more than Americans, they can't make up their minds.

It's actually more expensive and time consuming for companies but firms have to still consider skill set and work experience. Alot of times it's just plain timing.

We had to hire an HB1 for the summer because there were no viable options, most new grads already found positions after graduating for this quarter. Once they go full time they will be making the same as any other new grad coming in, that doesn't change.

Much of the work and even many of the new companies in the US were started by immigrants. For skilled labor jobs, employers should be able to hire the best employee. Finding a brilliant research with a proven portfolio of work and achievements is very different from finding a construction working or a retail employee.

And just as foreign skilled workers come to the United States, American skilled workers go overseas. Being an unique talent can get you a visa anywhere in the world.

They will never get rid of the H1B visa program for both corporate and political reasons.

The H1B program should be strongly curtailed and only used in fields that have a dire shortage of workers (doctors, research scientists etc). I've seen firsthand at y job how a business abuse this system to the detriment of our fellow American workers. Why does a Big 4 accounting firm needs to bring in people on these work visas when accounting grads are a dime a dozen?

Not a Trump supporter but I would really love if he takes this problem seriously.
Am in agreement. Allows companies to pay *LESS* overall, thus surpressing wages for American citizens. Such companies claim they have to hire from outside of the US because they can't find suitable American workers here. Am calling a spade a spade and pointing to the BS these companies spew.

Agree. Plenty of American Citizens going to tech school, and other prestigious colleges for that matter. Let companies recruit from those pools.

Top Americans from top prestigious universities also have the option of working wherever they want to in the world.

At the level of high achievement no one cares about your nationality, as money and talent are liquid and will always flow between borders.

NYC also has a major startup scene. If you're that good consider starting up your own company.

Yet again NYWriterdude resorts to blasé behavior for a serious problem. Americans shouldn't have to go overseas to get good jobs when there are *plenty* of them here. Problem is cheap companies. Am happy we have a protectionist in office looking out for Americans instead of the likes of Obama.

Am in agreement. Surpession of American wages is an issue across various industries. For all of the talk of how we *need* immigrants and how they're so important to the economy, Americans overall suffer by being cheated of higher pay. Am certain NYWriterDude will bring up the idea of how there are so many jobs Americans *won't* do as a pathetic retort.
