Building is safe has doorman. Express bus across the street and MetroNorth not far away. Also have subway nearby. Amenities aren't great, but can always get groceries elsewhere or whatever.

Depends on area. All apartments I showed you are *MUCH* safer than that part of Harlem *by far*. Have been around these areas and can tell you from personal experience. Rents went *UP* in the Bronx because everyone is moving there for reasonable rents in the decent areas.

I'm definitely not trying to kill your dreams, and I doubt he is either.
He's just being a realist.

As he said, if you're used to this kind of neighborhood, you're fine. If you were born and raised in Riverdale, he'd be hard pressed to "sell" you the neighborhood.

At the end of your day, it's your choice. If living on your own is your goal, just scan the neighborhood. The good thing is that the complex itself is well maintained, and since it's a gated community with it's own security force, most of the riffraff will have a difficult time to spillover into the complex.

These are just the beginning stages though, it's not a guarantee until you have those keys in your hand.
There aren't many opportunities like this for the 100% AMI bracket, so jump on it.

1. There are many areas in the Bronx that are 10 - 20 times safer than Manhattan. Why does everyone clump the Bronx as one big ghetto?

2. Even in the hood, the costs are going way up. No such thing as cheap anymore.
