For the record, Hawaii did not adopt a universal basic income. Some local legislator here just introduced a bill to study the issue. Hopefully, it doesn't come to pass as I'm a property owner here and don't want my taxes increasing to pay for such nonsense.

This country is built on the backs of hard working entrepreneurs who worked for everything they have. They will never let the lazy and undeserved get a free ride. They would basically rather go to another civil war over this

Actualy, they did pass this bill yestarday. I saw the yahoo news. The main purpose of this bill/Basic Universal income/ for everybody to end the poverty and income inequality . Several countries/Canada (Ontario), Sweden , they doing research now by providing this bill into life and see what outcome will be. . So far, the Research has positive sides. The beneficiaries of this income don't waste that money, they spend them on home improvements, education, to open new buisiness.

The moochers will be the death of democracy. At some point the producers won't put up with them any more.

Actually, Hawaii did not pass a universal basic income, just like I mentioned before. A bill was proposed to study the issue, again as I mentioned before. What Hawaii do in June was pass a bill:

to convene a basic economic security working group," a request that can be seen as the first tangible step toward a US basic income program.

If you're going to make such claims, provide proof.

If we go into Universal Income, the United States will no longer be capitalist but socialist.

Not necessarily. Communism and to a lesser degree socialism does not allow private enterprise unless commissioned by the will of the Communist Party Chairmanship like Ford were able to build in the Soviet Union prior to WW2, or American companies build in Peoples Republic of China today. The US will remain capitalist, and still based off of private enterprise. Private enterprise will still get goods and services from folks receiving UBI. Even with Socialism, all industries are nationalized and controlled by the government like in Venezuela or Nazi Germany, or Baathist Syria or Baathist Iraq, therefore their is no competition. This has not yet happened and will never happen in the USA.

My issue is taxes. Plus if UBI or w/e is $40k, then wtf am I working for. I'll buy a cheapo place in the Bronx or Westchester to store my stuff and rent out to friends and live in Tokyo using the rest of the 40k to eat that $3 curry and $4 beef bowls I miss every day. Of course I need to come back every 6 months to retain both US citizenship and to not be deported from Japan, but my friend has already offered me a free place in Nippori!

I've been eyeing some places in Pelham Parkway recently, maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy.

The only way to fix this is to go back to how the Founders correctly (for the time) created our system: no stake in the game, no vote.

Modern times are different so we couldn't base this off of land ownership, but a simple solution would be to deny the "right" to vote to anyone who does not show a tax return of some sort with income from an actual job.

Absent that, their existence is simply to leech from others, and they should not have the ability to vote for government that promotes such lifestyles.
