I saw this little AM NY item that Gale Brewer did a survey of the worrisome decline in supermarkets. I'm not sure that this is a great study - I don't get the impression that they made the distinction between cheap and over-priced markets - but it's a step in the right direction. I'm thinking of writing to her.

Apropos of my previous post wondering about benefits to corporate landlords to keeping empty vacated properties, it would be nice if someone would reach out to cheaper grocery chains, like Fine Fare, and offer them good deals to take over abandoned market spaces. After all, Aetna is being offered huge financial incentives to move to NYC.
