Babies are the ones selfish enough to not care how they effect anyone else.

If all knows so well about noise complaints, NYPD has an 7 hour response time if they ever do show up for half the complaint received for fireworks... Article even shows them sitting in patrol cars enjoying the show..

Oh put a lid on it! No one deserves to be up all night when they have to work the next day. If you want to see fireworks go to the stupid Macy's Day Parade.

Didn't we just have a discussion on where most noise complaints come from?

Boy these people who have to work in the day complain about fireworks for one night?

Work nights and enjoy the noise you have to hear during the day, day after day.

It was the same all over the Bronx; Morris Park, City Island, Norwood, Country Club, wherever - people were complaining that this was the worst it's been in years. In our neighbourhood there was also A LOT of illegal barbecuing with drunkenness, fighting, public urination, etc all of which had been squelched in previous years by officers showing up early in the evening and telling people "no barbecuing, there's a $300 fine" - and apparently that didn't happen this year.

I saw cruisers go by without any effect. The other thing that very possibly might have affected officer behavior and response was the police murder that evening. The report that I read said that hundreds of cops showed up at the scene and at the hospital and they stayed there for hours. So, maybe there was an unofficial job action that night while officers flocked to that location.

Live fireworks aren't a noise complaint....it's a 911 call and callers would/should have been redirected.

This was my first 4th spent in Astoria (I lived there by this point last year but spent the holiday at my mom's in the Bronx). Much quieter than the Bronx....much more peaceful. I also had work on Wed morning, but even the official show which I could hear from my place was drowned out by my air conditioner. No one seemed to be doing the "just noise" fireworks, which are the real nuisance in my opinion.
