I give this post 5 stars.

You'll never see a joke like this on the DC forum.

Misconceptions?

That we're all rude. No. We're all in rush. Big difference.
That it's impossible to raise a family here. It isn't. Millions
of us do and most of the kids turn out OK.
That nobody here drives. Wrong. More New Yorkers own cars
than most out-of-towners suspect. Even in Manhattan.
That we're all out at night partying, clubbing, or going to the
opera. Nope. Most of us go to sleep at night. We have work!
That we're arrogant SOBs because we live in New York. Nope. Because nobody can trash talk this city like a native!

What? Every neighborhood in Brooklyn I've been to has numerous 24 hour delis, and the neighborhood I work in (Springfield Gardens) has numerous 24 hour delis as well. Pretty much everywhere in NYC has them except for maybe the really suburban parts of Staten Island.

Even the cheapest neighborhoods have relatively high rents now, but it's not like you need to be rich to make something work.

Obviously a lot of people have cars, but it's a considerably smaller percentage than any other US city.

And of course not all New Yorkers party every night, but for those who want to party, there's great nightlife available even on weeknights.

If you came to NYC from somewhere else, what were your biggest misconceptions? If you're a local, what do you believe are the biggest misconceptions about New York?
People that I know coming from overseas still think of NYC as a very dangerous place like it was in the 1970s/1980s.

Yes! So many cities are dead during the week. In NYC you can go out any night of the week and it's hopping.
