I was 24. At a friend's house who worked for Con Ed. Lazy dude. Didnt want to go to work.Every time the phone rang he'd tell his wife to answer and say "he's not home".

We left went home to 4th floor walk up on Fresh pond by Catalpa. Friend down the block called. Said she was scared. Come over. OK. Fresh Pond was like a street party.

In Bushwick there used to be a lot of nice stores. Used to have an eye Dr there. The stores were looted and burned. They never came back.

This was a different NY. Son of Sam was still killing. Two yeas before was when Pres. Ford told the city to "Drop Dead". A very different time. If you watch old movies from early, mid seventies set in NYC you'll get a small hint of what it was like then.

I was in my Mom's belly. I was born in November :-) But my sister (she's 5 years older) was at home, taking a bath. She said when the lights when out she jumped out of the tub and ran from the bathroom past our Dad. I need to ask my Dad what the blackout was like.

I was only a year old but heard about it from my grandma and other family members. It was rough times in NYC then regardless. I worked in Times Square for 11 years and would wonder what it was like to walk through it during those days, compared to today.
