I wasn't born yet for that, but I can't imagine that it was as bad as the 5 days of no power in Manhattan below 40th Street from October 29, 2012 - November 2, 2012!! I was FREEZING at night and starving.

The night the streets of brooklyn and the bronx went up in flames. That blackout was such a big part in NYC history. So much change came out of that blackout.

Looting and rioting that took place during blackout was largely responsible for the remaining white flight out of certain NYC neighborhoods (Bushwick was one). Fast forward forty years later and whites are moving back with a vengeance.

Blah blah politics.

I was in Burger King on Northern Blvd. in Flushing making three hamburgers, ketchup only (have it your way, remember?) when the lights went out. I brought a co-worker friend home with me since she bussed to work and I walked. Trying to cross Northern Blvd. in the dark with no street lights - no lights other than those of the speeding cars, and man, they were speeding like crazy - it was taking your life in your hands, but we made it.

I was taking a night class at Queens College when the lights went out. A few students had cigarette lighters which we used for light to find our way down the stairs and out the building.

Pray that history of this kind won't repeat, at least while I am living here.
