Those Eastern Queens neighborhoods like Cambria Heights are comparable to Central Queens neighborhoods that experienced white flight. Jackson Heights, Corona Elmhurst, etc are no more dangerous than Cambria Heights, Laurelton, etc. Actually the middle class Black neighorhoods are safer. There's an organized crime seen along Roosevelt Avenue.
White flight was encouraged by realtors who started marketing houses and apartments to black people in some neighborhoods, rather than white people. Do your homework and learn your history.
Rosedale was a mostly white neighborhood, it experienced white flight (who knows why? because black people started moving in and white people got "scared"? about potential crime? about their "property values" going down? whatever), and it remains a middle class low crime neighborhood (just a black one now).
The quality of life has NOT gone down in Rosedale.
And yes, white people were stupid to leave.
The same could be said about some Bronx neighborhoods. Bedford Park and Norwood used to be mostly white working class neighborhoods. Black and Hispanic people started moving in and white people fled. However these neighborhoods remained and still remain working class neighborhoods, just black and Hispanic working class neighborhoods now, instead of Jewish, Irish, and Italian working class neighborhoods.
Norwood was one of the main spots for chronic drug problems after the Irish fled *EN MASSE* to Woodlawn and never looked back. Am thinking you need to try harder. Bedford Park and Norwood certainly have their problems.

What's a comparable white neighborhood to those neighborhood? For that matter, what is crime?

The middle class black neighborhoods in Eastern Queens (Laurelton, etc.) are MUCH safer than Jackson Heights, Corona, etc.

Mostly white Staten Island's opiate epidemic is so bad they are overdosing in the ferry terminal.
There's a severe opiod epidemic among white people in places like Staten Island, the suburbs, etc. Selling opiates on the street, and using them is very illegal.
So white people moving to mostly white neighborhoods certainly did not help them escape "crime".
