The Grand Concourse is the most famous, but Fordam is the most popular and accessible. It really is the middle of the Bronx.

Fordham Rd without question. It is the busiest commercially, has the zoo and Arthur Ave on one side and The Botanical Garden and Firdham U on the other , the busiest metro north station after Grand Central and the Bx 12 select bus which is the only real east/ West rapid transit link in the borough which also connects all of the subway lines and metro north .

I view Fordham Road and Pelham Parkway as one really. It's the same road with different names on either side of Bronx Park but it's one thoroughfare from Inwood across to Pelham Bay Park/ City Island.

Historically, hasn't it always been the Grand Concourse? It's not the most commercial but always has been one of the most defining streets for the Bronx to me even if I prefer to be in neighborhoods where it doesn't touch.

*LOL* Wrote Henry Hudson Parkway more as a joke or whatever, but yes, would say historically that the Concourse was always meant to be the jewel of the Bronx. Was modeled after The Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris France to show how grandiose the Bronx was at the time. Can tell you the entire borough was built as a middle to upper middle class retreat for those that wanted to escape the overcrowding in Manhattan at the time. Can even look at many of the buildings along the Concourse and see the amount of work that went into them when they were first constructed. Hard to find such buildings anymore. Am glad that the borough president decided to undertake investing serious *dough* into the historical parts of the Concourse (basically from 158th to 165th). The Grand Concourse if anything is a symbol of what the Bronx was supposed to be originally and what we see today in the good parts of the Bronx: Nice suburban-like neighborhoods, with nice houses and tree-lined streets. Too bad that Robert Moses had other ideas. Areas like Riverdale, parts of Pelham Parkway, Pelham Gardens, Morris Park/Indian Village, Woodlawn and Country Club still remain as models and are quite beautiful. Am here to tell you... Can take walking tours of certain areas and pinch yourself out of shock because one wouldn't believe they were in the City, let alone the Bronx given how suburban, quiet and charming some areas are.
