This showcases just how willfully ignorant people are. For those answering that these station are "naturally" this or that, why don't you just ****ing google (at least) first. I assume that you are all adults. How pathetic.

The SAS stations are climate controlled.

In August 2006, the MTA revealed that all future subway stations—including stations on the Second Avenue Subway and the 7 Subway Extension, as well as the new South Ferry station—would be outfitted with air-cooling systems to reduce the temperature along platforms by as much as 10*°F (6*°C).

So says the person in South Carolina. Can stand at the Atlantic Avenue station platform and wait for the 4 subway and tell me what you think then.

What's with all the hostility? I said NYC stations are hot - what else do you want?

BTW, do you think it is possible that someone in SC has also lived in other places? Cool down, it not that big a deal.

Not only are many underground NYC subway platforms hot but they are hotter than the surface temperature.
Your claim that subway stations are naturally cooled is utter nonsense. Do you think coal mines are naturally cooled?

It's not a big deal but why go around spewing nonsense when there is information widely available to the contrary?

Many subway platforms in NYC are hotter than the surface mainly because they were built before we had air conditioned cars. As another poster noted, modern cars spew massive amounts of heat exhaust and stations do not have the proper ventilation systems to accommodate this added energy.

To be fair, if there weren't engines spewing hot fumes and the body heat of millions of people packed in tight quarters heating them up, I'm sure the subway tunnels would be cooler than topside.

Too bad about those fumes and bodies, though.
