area code 212 (business, phone number, residences)

hello,
I tried to call some telephone number in code area 212 but it say "check numbers".. or "numbers changed" .. could anyone tell me where i could ask about the new telephone number. thanks.

do a search of business or residences via name search on one of the phone provider websites such as verizon

Is it possible that someone wrote it down wrong? You can look the person/business up on Superpages.com. If they're not listed, then you're out of luck, unless you know someone else who might have the number.
