Are u russian? Cuz that area is predominately russians. I heard russians are not welcoming others than their race. But since u r white u can pass as them. But brighton beach is still too far from manhattan. It is all the way at coney island. As far bushwick not being safe, it is in a predominately low income african-american area. So I won't feel comfortable as a white female living there. For good area, it depend how much r u willing to pay? How much can u afford? Give me a price and I will tell u so good area.
What is ur situation? Are u single and how old r u?

LOL! R u serious? u have to be Russian to live there? ...what a JOKE!
so what would that be like a 45 minute train ride? no biggie.
I'm a 34 year old single female, i'm a legal secretary. I want to pay anywhere between 400 - 500 on my share of the rent. I was looking in Astoria, Sunnyside, East Elmhurst, Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and Bayside in queens....how are these areas? i fricken hope okay...seriously i'm tired of searching around, but i def don't want to be in a neighborhood where i'll be shot at so i'll keep looking if i have too...

All those neighborhoods, except East Elmhurst, are nice neighborhoods [esp. Bayside].

Y what's wrong w/East Elmhurst? There was an ad on Craigslist that i responded to that was on East Elmhurst...
What's so nice about Bayside? sorry so many questions, but i have no clue at all about NY areas of what's decent and what's not...so any feedback is very very helpful to me....

I would actually say Astoria would be more fun than Bayside. Bayside is more suburban than Astoria, but if thats your thing go for it.

Astoria has some ghetto part and also some good part. Bayside is a good neighborhood, but just like rosedale the commute is 90+ min to the city with bus and subway. Not sure if there is a LIRR station. If yes would be a faster, but not sure by how fast. LIRR fares also cost double of subway. So be prepare to pay LIRR and then a metrocard depending where u work.
Also Bayside is a very expensive neighborhood, homes range in the millions. So u can expect to rent 1 br apt. for close to manhattan price.
With $400-$500 budget, even in the outerborough, be prepare to get a roomate. R u willing to have a roomate? If not, ur budget is unrealistic.

bayside encompasses a wide area and while there are million dollar homes there, there are also many lower priced homes, there are many apts there and rents are nowhere near manhattan levels. There is a LIRR station in bayside but little parking near the station. In addition to bayside there is douglaston and little neck which are probably the last best areas to live within NYC. to save a few bucks there are areas between bayside and flushing that are nice and less expensive, forgive me for not know the exact names of the areas, but anything east of 188 st and north of union turnpike are fine affordable areas. The op is not going to find anything in that 400-500 price range anywhere!
