Yuck! How about the big roaches that fly - the waterbugs?! I'm so grossed out every time I see one that I literally think about it for days on end, obsessing of when I won't see another again!

Guess you won't be going to South Florida anytime soon.

I know I may sound weird, but rats are adorable. I just don't want them near me because of their history - like bubonic plague, etc. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind one as a pet.

Cockroaches everywhere!
When have they ever gone away? They are resilient and will live through anything. They can even survive maimed and decapitated. For a few more days at least. Shudder.

Will tell some of you other things you don't want to hear.

As NYC climate moves to becoming more temperate with mild winters, the rat population will only increase unless or until major efforts are taken to prevent.

Rodents don't breed at temperatures < about 32F for prolonged periods. That is a long cold winter (which used to be normal for NYC), means at least for several weeks/months rats, mice, etc... aren't breeding (at least those living outdoors).

Last few winters we've barely had a week straight of cold weather much less a month or months of it; as such rats can breed mostly all year now. Long as they can find adequate food and shelter....

Check out subway creatures on instagram. There’s a recent video of a guy sleeping on a bench and next to him is a bag of food. Several rats are near his feet and one or two even climb up his leg to get to the food. They really don’t fear humans unless you make a sudden movement.

I honestly haven't seen a rat in years, but I know they're here! They're a fact of life. I had a stare down with one in my stairwell many decades ago. I won.
